Boreito stick
Wood becomes stronger when wet, a 'chalk-like wood preservative' containing boric acid.
"Boreit Stick" is a wood preservative that solidifies borate wood preservative DOT (sodium borate decahydrate) into a chalk-like form using special technology. "Borate" has excellent antifungal and termite-repelling effects. However, it has the drawback of being easily soluble in water, which means borate treatment cannot be applied to wood that gets wet. Therefore, the product developed with a reverse approach is "Boreit Stick." When wood containing "Boreit Stick" gets wet, the DOT that dissolves from the "Boreit Stick" slowly spreads according to the moisture contained in the wood. The DOT that spreads within the wood protects it from decay and termite damage. It has been used in public facilities (such as parks and wooden bridges). Over 1,600 "Boreit Sticks" have been treated in the preservation work of the wooden bridge "Tokiwa Bridge" in Kitakyushu.
